The quickest and easiest way to visit the Double D Ranch is by flying directly into Casper, Wyoming, renting a car from one of the various vendors available at the airport terminal and driving the short 30 minute drive to the Ranch on I-25. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is not required to access the ranch, but if your plans include trips off the beaten path, you don’t want to be without it. Glenrock, Wyoming is located at latitude 42.86 north and longitude 105.87 west, is in the Mountain Time zone, and follows daylight savings time. Glenrock’s annual precipitation averages 12 inches per year and an average snow fall of 22 inches per year. The annual average temperature is 50 degrees. Although, snowfall in Glenrock averages only 22 inches per year, the ranch experiences much greater snowfall due to the fact that it is considerably higher than the town of Glenrock, which sits at 5,000 ft above sea level. The Double D Ranch offers plenty of peace and quiet and wide open spaces. Wyoming is the country’s least populated state, yet is ranked as the number three “most livable state” in the United States. Wyoming is home to our nation’s first national park, Yellowstone, and the country’s first national monument, Devil’s Tower. Nearly 50% of the entire state is owned by the federal and state governments. With its 2 national parks, 10 national forests, and 10 downhill ski areas, there is no denying that Wyoming is all about the outdoors. If hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and camping are your things, then the cowboy state is your state and the Double D Ranch is your kind of ranch. The property on which the Double D Ranch is currently located was once the buffalo hunting grounds of the Arapaho, Oglala and Cheyenne Indian tribes. In 1859, the Bureau of Indian Affairs agreed to establish a permanent reservation for the Oglala tribe on a large parcel of land extending from outside of present day Glenrock to Box Elder Canyon, and included the area now occupied by the Double D Ranch. However, the United States Senate refused to ratify the Deer Creek Treaty, which sought to establish the reservation. Many historians believe that the Senate’s failure to ratify the Deer Creek Treaty, which would have established Indian reservations for several of the Plains Indian tribes may have been the impetus for the Indian wars of the 1860s. Double D Ranch is available for rental during select dates each year at the rate or $10,000 per week. Please use our contact form for all inquiries regarding rental availability.
